A Dad's Journey: Turning Solo Camping Into a Family Adventure
Camping has always been more than just a hobby for Joe. It's a passion he's eager to share with his family. After decades of enjoying the outdoors, his love for nature remains strong, but his approach to camping has evolved as his family grew.
"I've been camping for decades now, and my experience has evolved since I got married and had two young children," Joe says. "Naturally, I wanted to do everything I could to get my family to enjoy camping as much as I did when I was growing up."
However, family camping wasn't always smooth sailing. "A tent turns into an oven during the day, and at night, it can get surprisingly cold," he explains. These challenges made it difficult for his family to truly enjoy the experience, and for Joe to keep the tradition going.
So, he began looking for solutions. He researched everything from tents to sleeping gear to temperature control, determined to make the outdoors more comfortable for everyone.
Finding a Better Way to Camp as a Family
Joe knew that if his family felt comfortable, they'd be more likely to love camping. He started by upgrading the basics—better cots and sleeping pads for restful nights. But the real breakthrough came when he found a way to control the temperature, discovering the ZERO BREEZE Mark 3 portable air conditioner.
"I found ZERO BREEZE and did my research for a couple of weeks. The reviews were very solid," Joe says.
His Cybertruck made the choice even easier. With built-in 120V outlets, he could power the Mark 3 directly from the truck when parked nearby. And when distance was an issue, the unit's detachable battery offered an alternative.
"It was a no-brainer," Joe adds. "Most of the time, I camp with the truck nearby, so it's super easy to keep the AC running. And when I can't, the battery still does the job."
Making the Tent a True Retreat
One of Joe's recent trips was to the Kern River, where he camped with his wife and two young children while also going whitewater rafting. The temperature soared to 95℉ during the day, and inside the tent, the heat was nearly unbearable.
"Having the Mark 3 on all day was a savior," Joe recalls. "It became our escape. Normally we wouldn't even think of stepping into the tent in that kind of heat." Thanks to the AC, their tent turned into a cool retreat where they could relax and recharge.
Another trip took them to Bass Lake, where nighttime temperatures dipped into the low 40s. This time, Joe switched the Mark 3 to heating mode, which kept the tent comfortably warm around 70℉ throughout the night. "My wife and two young children slept in comfort," Joe says. "I had the unit plugged into the Cybertruck all night, and it worked flawlessly."
On trips where the nights were milder, Joe used the sleep mode, which offered gentle cooling while staying quiet enough for the kids to rest peacefully. No matter the weather, the Mark 3 gave Joe the flexibility to adapt, transforming camping into a truly enjoyable experience for the whole family.

What Joe Learned Along the Way
Over time, Joe has figured out a few tricks that help maximize the performance of his Mark 3:
- Prioritize Shade
Shade makes a major difference. Joe uses two tents—a 6-person and an 8-person—and has found that keeping them out of direct sunlight helps the Mark 3 work more effectively. "I do my best to get my tent in the shade," he says. "If I can't get any shade, I try to position our EasyUp over our tent for that shade." With this setup, and the Mark 3 running in rocket mode, the tent becomes much cooler. "I can't say the tent was cold, but it is significantly cooler than being outside," he adds.
- Have a Reliable Power Source
As mentioned earlier, Joe's Cybertruck is a key part of his camping setup. The truck's 120V outlets allow him to power the Mark 3 throughout the day. "The real trick is having a reliable power source," Joe explains. "Since I am able to keep it plugged into a power source, I simply left it running in rocket mode almost all the time (except in the evenings)." This steady power supply allows the family to enjoy long stretches of cooling without interruptions, making the tent feel like an oasis during hot summer days.
- Use the Ducts Effectively
Proper ducting is essential to getting the most from the Mark 3. Joe usually places the unit inside the tent, running both rear ducts outside for cooling, or switching to the front ducts when using the heating mode. "I always used both hoses. There was a time when I napped alone, so to get the very most of it, I also added the third hose to give the conditioned air direction directly towards me. WOW, that made a massive difference obviously. Since the air was going directly on me, it's too cold actually," he laughs. Strategic duct placement can help direct airflow where it's needed most, especially for spot cooling.

From Challenge to Comfort with the Mark 3
While the Mark 3 isn't designed to cool an entire large tent under the blazing sun, Joe has found that with the right setup of good shade, steady power, and proper ducting, it delivers powerful results.
For Joe, the Mark 3 isn't just another gadget. It's the reason his family can continue camping comfortably, even when the weather doesn't cooperate.
"The Mark 3 basically saved our camping trip! The weather was close to 98 degrees and our tent was the coolest place to be. I will always camp with our Mark 3 as it really changes our experience tremendously!"
By making their trips more enjoyable, the Mark 3 has turned Joe's personal tradition into a shared family adventure. What started as one dad's solo tradition is now a joy passed down to the next generation.
When your tent becomes a place of comfort, no matter the weather, it's easier to focus on what really matters: unplugging from daily life, connecting with your loved ones, and creating memories that last a lifetime under the stars.
