Stay Cool Overnight Without Idling: A Real-World Look at the ZERO BREEZE Mark 3 in a Semi-Truck Sleeper Cab

For many truck drivers, the sleeper cab is more than just a place to sleep — it's the only space to rest and recharge between long hours on the road. But in the summer, that small space can quickly turn into an oven: direct sunlight through the windshield, poor airflow, and heat-retaining materials all make overnight stops uncomfortable.

Many drivers idle the engine just to keep the cab cool, but that means extra fuel burn, added engine wear, and in many cases running up against fleet or local idling restrictions. A fan can move air around, but it can't actually remove heat from the cab.

The problem we set out to solve is simple: keep the sleeper cab cool with the engine off. That's exactly what the ZERO BREEZE Mark 3 is built for — and combining our product specs with a real driver's hands-on installation, here's a clear look at how it's set up and how it performs.

Compared to a diesel APU, which typically costs $8,000–$10,000, the Mark 3 has a much lower upfront cost and installation barrier. Compared to idling, it runs on battery power with zero added fuel cost.


3. How It's Installed — and How a Real Driver Used It

The video documents the full installation process inside a semi-truck sleeper cab — from mounting the window venting kit and connecting the ducts, to powering on and testing the unit — showing exactly how the Mark 3 fits into a driver's daily routine.

Here's the full installation process:

Step 1: Unbox and check the parts Main unit, front/rear intake and exhaust ducts with adapters, remote control, drain hose, power adapter — confirm everything against the manual.

Step 2: Install the window venting kit Measure and trim the sealing panel to fit your window, then secure it in place to create an airtight exhaust path. This step is critical — without a good seal, cold air escapes and hot air leaks back in.

Step 3: Connect the exhaust duct Attach the rear exhaust duct to the window adapter to vent heat generated during cooling to the outside.

Step 4: Connect the intake duct Position the duct based on your cab layout so cool air is directed toward the sleeping area.

Step 5: Connect power and turn it on The dedicated battery slides into the base with a simple click-in design; alternatively, connect to a 48V DC or AC power source. Once powered on, adjust mode and temperature via the remote or app.


4. How Well Does It Actually Perform

The driver's feedback from testing was direct: overall satisfaction was high, and the unit delivered the expected cooling result. The nighttime heat problem in the sleeper cab was noticeably improved, without needing to idle through the night.

Combined with our own tested performance data, here's a more concrete picture of what that means:

  • Fast cooling  — in the highest-output cooling mode, a 20°F temperature drop in as little as 5 minutes.
  • Stable overnight temperature — maintains roughly 72°F overnight even with the engine off.
  • Low noise — around 46 dB in Sleep Mode, well below idling noise levels.
  • No fuel cost — runs all night on battery power with zero added fuel consumption.

In one of our real-world van tests, we set the target temperature to 75°F and stacked 3 batteries for power — the unit ran continuously for 12 hours of cooling. That's enough to cover a full night's rest and then some, and it shows that if the standard 3–7 hour single-battery runtime isn't enough, adding batteries is a straightforward way to extend it.


The Mark 3 isn't meant to replace a truck's full HVAC system — it's a purpose-built solution for one specific scenario: staying cool with the engine off and no shore power available. If overnight heat in the sleeper cab is a recurring problem, this installation process is a practical starting point.
